Soup Kitchen
Emmanuel Episcopal began hosting its soup kitchen in 1981 as an outreach of the church, in response to the growing number of homeless mentally ill people in downtown. Since its inception, the soup kitchen has served lunch to at least 60 people every Saturday; Emmanuel’s efforts are supported by sixteen organizations of all faiths and from across the Rockford area. The seventeen organizations, including Emmanuel Episcopal, rotate hosting duties throughout the calendar year.
